5 Steps to Rediscover Who God Says You Are (And Stop Believing the Lies)

Feeling lost? Rediscover your true worth with 30 days of scripture and reflection to reclaim your identity.

Do you ever feel like you're wearing a mask that just won't come off?

You smile at church, you say "I'm fine" when friends ask, and you go through the motions of your day. But deep down, there's a whisper you can't silence—a voice telling you that you aren't enough, that you're defined by your past mistakes, or that you're just not "Christian enough" to be truly loved by God. It’s a heavy burden to carry, and quite frankly, it’s exhausting.

You weren't created to live under the weight of false labels, and today, we're going to talk about how to trade them in for the truth.

The Identity Crisis We Don't Talk About

We often think of an "identity crisis" as something that happens in mid-life, maybe involving a sports car or a drastic haircut.

But for many of us, the crisis is much quieter and far more spiritual. It happens when the voice of the world gets louder than the voice of God. We start believing that our worth is tied to our productivity, our relationship status, or how well-behaved our children are in the supermarket.

We forget that before we did anything—good or bad—God called us His own.

When we lose sight of our identity in Christ, our faith starts to feel like a question mark rather than an exclamation point.

Why We Forget Who We Are

It’s not that we don’t know the Bible verses; it’s that we struggle to believe they apply to us.

We read that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made," but we look in the mirror and only see flaws. We hear that we are "redeemed," but our memories replay our biggest regrets on a loop. The enemy loves to attack our identity because if he can make us doubt who we are, he can keep us from doing what we were created to do.

But here is the good news: God’s truth about you doesn't change based on how you feel today.

Step 1: Confront the Lies You've Accepted

The first step to healing is admitting that you’ve been listening to the wrong voice.

Grab a notebook or a piece of paper and write down the negative labels you’ve accepted as truth. Maybe it’s words like "unlovable," "failure," "too much," or "not enough." Seeing them in black and white can be painful, but it exposes the lies for what they are—words that do not align with Scripture.

You have to name the lie before you can replace it with the truth.

Step 2: Replace the Lie with God's Truth

Once you’ve identified the lies, you need to find out what God actually says about you.

This isn't about positive thinking; it’s about biblical thinking. If you feel unlovable, read Romans 8:38-39. If you feel like a failure, read Philippians 1:6. God has already spoken over you, declaring you chosen, loved, redeemed, and victorious. The problem is, we often forget to live like it.

We need to saturate our minds with His promises until they become louder than our insecurities.

Step 3: Make Space for Quiet Reflection

We live in a noisy world that is constantly trying to tell us who to be.

To truly grasp your identity in Christ, you need to disconnect from the noise and connect with the Father. This doesn't mean you need to spend hours in silence (let's be real, who has that kind of time?), but it does mean carving out intentional moments to sit with God. It’s in these quiet moments that the Holy Spirit can minister to your heart and remind you of your true name.

Silence isn't empty; it's full of answers if we listen.

Step 4: Use a Tool to Guide Your Journey

Sometimes, we need a little help to stay on track.

It’s easy to say "I’m going to study my identity," but without a plan, life gets in the way. That’s why I created the My Identity in Christ: Devotional Journal. This isn't just a notebook; it’s a 30-day bootcamp for your soul, designed to help you break free from the lies and step into the confidence of who God says you are.

Each day, you'll dive into a powerful Bible verse, reflect on its truth, and journal your way to a deeper understanding of your identity in Him.

What’s Inside the Journal?

This journal is designed to be your daily companion as you navigate this journey of rediscovery. It includes:

  • Daily Scripture: carefully selected verses that speak directly to your worth and standing in Christ.
  • Reflective Prompts: Questions that dig deep, helping you process what you’re reading and apply it to your actual life.
  • Space for Prayer: A dedicated place to write out your prayers, surrender your fears, and document what God is speaking to your heart.

If you’re ready to stop questioning and start living boldly in your God-given identity, this guide is for you.

Step 5: Walk in Your New Identity

Knowing the truth is one thing; living it out is another.

As you work through the journal, you’ll start to notice a shift. You’ll walk a little taller, love a little deeper, and handle life’s curveballs with a new sense of peace. You’ll stop looking to others for validation because you’ll know you already have the approval of the King.

Your identity isn't something you achieve; it’s something you receive. Friend, you are who He says you are. It’s time to believe it.
